Taking the plunge

As a mentioned a few posts back I decided to take the 52 Pair Plunge. It started June 1 and ends June 1 '09. Basically your supposed to try and knit 52 pairs of socks with in the year. This breaks down to a pair of socks a week. I know it sounds a little crazy but baby and kids socks are counted as well so don't be alarmed if you see a few baby socks knit from left overs here on the blog. I'll just have to find some babies to give them to or a place to donate.

Anyway I finished my first pair on Sunday. So it was almost exactly a week and I did knit on few other things in between.

The yarn is Zen String "Living Light" and the pattern is the Caterpillar socks from Knit Spot. The pattern is hard to see because of all the pooling.

You can kind of see the pattern in this shot taken with out the flash. The pattern was really fun quick and easy but not boring. I will knit these again but maybe with a more solid color yarn.

Pair #2 was started on Sunday night

This is another of Anne's patterns the Spectator socks knit in Shibuiknits "Wasabi. These are and end of the year gift for my daughter's teacher. She was really great this year and did a lot to prepare both the kids and the parents for middle school next year, so I thought that deserved some handknit socks. I have one more repeat and then I'll be done with the legs this is another beautiful, fun, easy, but still interesting knit. That's why I love Anne's patterns sock patterns so much. I'm sure I'll be knitting many more of hers over the course of this year.

Have a great night all!

Loopy Ewe Swap Two

My Loopy Ewe Swap last week but things have been busy and will probably continue to be a bit busy until the kids are out of school on the 24th. Lots of last minute things to tie up and because this is my daughter's last year of elementary school she has a ton of events to go too and has also volunteered me for a few things as well. That's way it's taken until now to show all the great goodies and to say thank you. My pal was Leah and she did and excellent job on my package.

everything came in this really pretty box.

were all these wonderful goodies!

There was skein of Woolly Boully sock yarn that I've been dying to try but keep missing it at the Loopy Ewe in the "Cherry Cola" colorway. As soon as I'm finished with the socks I'm making for my daughter's teacher I'm casting on! She made me a beautiful lace scarf. The pattern is from Beautiful knitting patterns and the yarn is Lime and Violet in the "Lillian Gish" colorway.

I have to say Leah is a girl after my own heart, she bought not one but two knitting bags. I love knitting bags almost as much as I love the yarn I put in them. The one on the right is the red canvas sock bag from the Loopy Ewe and then she also got me the medium version of the Go Knit Pouch.

Lastly she thought about the kids which I thought was very sweet of her.

World of Knitted toys and 3 disposable cameras. I know there is only two the picture but my daughter had already walked off with hers. The kids loved both the cameras and the book and have already picked out some animals that they would like me to make. Thanks so much Leah for a truly wonderful package!

Warning a quick mommy brag:

P1010189

My oldest son just finished his first season of soccer. After the game he received his award and was so just so excited to get it. He told me he's been wanting a trophy all of his life and know he finally got one.  Also his team was chosen for the Sportsmanship Award, which means they played fairly, were polite to the other players, followed the rules, and were the best team in their division. He really enjoyed playing this season and can't wait for fall so he can sign up for again.

End of brag

Have a wonderful afternoon all!

In Bloom

P1010178

Things are finally in bloom here at the Gabby Knitter household. This is my first Rhododendron. I took it this morning so it wasn't fully open but I was so happy to see it finally I had to get a picture.

My Bleeding Hearts have appeared but only one of the plants came up the other one just vanished. I'm not sure where it went it has always come up in the past but for some reason not this year so we will have to replace it.

Socks are a bloom'in as well. The pattern is Caterpillar Socks from Knitspot and I'm using Zen String in the "Living Light" colorway. It's the fingering weight yarn and man is it ever wonderful to work with, I'm a little sad this is my only skein. I really like how these are pooling, very entertaining! These are my first socks for the 52 Pair Plunge 2.

The Fuchsias are finally looking well.... like Fuchsias. We bought them on sale and they looked a bit sad but after a few days of avid watering they are perking up nicely. These are my favorite summer plant, they look beautiful all season and of course they are my favorite colors, pink and purple!

Tulip's Sister sweater is coming along as well. It's a very easy knit and I love all the color changes and the colors themselves just make me happy.

I hope you all have a great night or day depending on when you read this.
